Make sure your new home is built with the nbn® network

16 June, 2023

A network Australians can count on

If you’re building a new home or buying off-the-plan, a home built with the nbn network is designed to help you do more of what you enjoy online.

Make it part of your plan and ask for nbn.

Your choice of providers

Over 150 phone and internet providers across the nbn network offering a choice of plans to suit your needs.^

Choose from a range of speed tiers

We offer a range of wholesale speed tiers designed to answer your household’s demand for digital technology and the internet.

Designed for the future

The nbn network can help to future-proof your home, so that it’s better able to handle higher levels of demand or advancements in technology.

Ensuring your new home is built with nbn

Congratulations on choosing to build a new home. Here are some things you will need to consider to ensure your new home is built with nbn connectivity.

Ask about nbn

When you’re looking for a block of land to build your new home, make sure you ask the developer about whether the development will be built with the nbn network. If they haven’t already, talk to them about submitting an nbn New Developments application.

Plan for your connectivity needs

  • Think about how you plan to use your devices in your new home, such as your phone, tablet, laptop or television;
  • Consider the design of your home and where you would like the nbn connection box to be positioned. Making this decision early is important both aesthetically and functionally;
  • Make a note of the services you will use in each room, including the equipment and data points you will need;
  • Mark where you want to place the nbn connection box, phone and data points on a plan of your home.

Keep your plans safe and handy, so you’re ready to discuss them with your builder. We also offer some information on in-home cabling that may be helpful to both you and your builder.

Speak to your builder early

Once your new home build is underway, talk to your builder about submitting a pre-installation request to arrange for the installation of the nbn connection box before you move in. This will help ensure a smoother transition into your new home, so you can start enjoying the benefits of connecting to the nbn network sooner.

Knockdown rebuild

If your current home is already connected to the nbn network and you are building a new home on the same block of land, you may need to submit a Relocation Works application. This will ensure the nbn network can be relocated to the most appropriate area within your land, so it is ready to reconnect once your new home is built.
